António Galapito

Last May, for our guest chef collaboration we invited to join our kitchen António Galapito of Lisbon’s restaurant Prado. Originally from Portugal, after working in London for a decade, Antonio returned to Lisbon to open Prado in 2017.

Working alongside local suppliers, António draws on international influences and the traditional cuisine of Portugal to create seasonal dishes that celebrate the best regional produce from the sea and land.

After the event, we sat with António to talk about wine.

Here is our conversation.

1. You're handed a wine list, what do you do?

Give it to my friend Daniel, if he is not around send him pictures.


2. How do you know the wine you're drinking is good?

Usually when everyone goes quiet is a good sign.


3. What is something fascinating you’ve been told over lunch?

When they serve me the grilled caviar at Etxebarri and tell you it's just grilled caviar. Fascinating


4. In whose company do you most enjoy drinking wine?

Friends, girlfriend and wine nerds alike.

5. Can you describe your ideal combination of wine, music, and setting?

Madeira and the sound of silence all after a big long lunch.


6. What sort of food would you add to the equation?

Had to be a good dessert, I have a sweet tooth.


7. What is the most memorable bottle of wine you’ve drank?

The first time I tried Overnoy, a chardonnay from 2012 it was very special, ethereal!


8. Where did you drink it?

Taberna Cigalena in Santander, wine drinkers heaven on earth

9. Is there a characteristic you look for in a wine and in a friend?

The only thing I look for in life is honesty.


10. What is your approach to drinking?

Always with friends and preferably with food is there anything better? long talks, exciting bottles and delicious food.


11. Do you apply this approach in other aspects of life?

Absolutely, you must do it.


12. What shall we open next?

Any growers champagne will do, your pick!

New Opening Times

Starting from this summer our opening times are changing. From Tuesday 1st August onwards, our restaurant will be open for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, and for lunch on Saturday as usual.

Summer Break

Our last day open before the holidays is Saturday 5th August. We will be back as usual from Tuesday 15th August.
